There is an unpredictable side to painting with bright, liquid colours that I like to balance with orderly process.  Choosing combinations of colours that lift and enhance, or flatten and suppress each other, escapes all formulae.  A choice of pigment hue, the binding medium of transfer, together with the heat of the hour and the artist’s physical and emotional state of being, come together in play with constant change.  Shape variations will increase with each application of colour, while all the colours in combination lift the painting into a visually dynamic whole.
