Even Song is an expression of the environment in which I am living at the preent time on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand, where the studio is filled with golden light on summer evenings. This painting is not a literal representation of the natural world, but relates to an art tradition that encourages a contemplative approach to seeing, bringing an experience of internal order and peace.

Lilian Ida Smith Acquisitive Award, October 2003, Sarjeant Gallery, Wanganui, NZ.
